The house came into view, and his excitement dissipated. It wasn’t that late, yet the place lay in darkness. The boys might be asleep already— though she normally kept them awake so he could tuck them in—but that left his wife…
Taking the stairs three at a time, his sense of unease increased. The place was too quiet, menacing almost in its state of slumber. Where was everyone? The open doors on the second floor mocked him, and the fine hair on his neck rose. Where were his boys? Holding onto the vain hope that Becky had shipped them off to her mother’s to give them some alone time, he pushed open the door to their bedroom, and froze.
The place had been ransacked, drawers upturned, the mirror on the wall cracked, and his heart broke further with every crunch of glass under his booted feet.
The only thing left of his wife, his entire freaking family was the picture in the middle of his bed.
Becky with another man. A man he knew only too well.
He didn’t even try to stop the howl erupting from his chest. Time to end this madness, and claim back his family.
