With trembling fingers, she slid off her clothes one by one. It wouldn’t do to refuse them. It was only her body. They couldn’t take away her memories. They couldn’t take her soul. That still and always would belong to him.
Through her tears, she continued, all too aware of the many stares on her naked flesh. She could almost feel them like a physical presence. Menacing, nauseating, unwanted, not at all like the last time she donned the mask.
Peace descended upon her with the feathers shielding her from view.
She opened her mind to memories of a happier time, when her dance was for his pleasure only. Hips swaying she gave herself over to the haunting music now filling her conscience, until nothing else mattered but bending to his will. She had never felt closer to him than when she was under his direction. Perspiration slid over her skin, and still she carried on dancing—for him—for all they once had—all they’d lost.
Love was forbidden in their times. Yet, they had risked it all anyway, until he’d paid the ultimate price.
“Farewell, my love.”
She smiled as his hands caressed her ass one last time.
