“Get your butt out there now, girl. Where is your sister?”
Gabriella jumped to her feet, and hid her yawn.
“Erm, she’s just popped out. I’ll take her tables, if you—“
“You damn well better. That sister of yours is a liability. Scoot, and smile. You look like death. Damn it why could the pretty one of you two not be the hard worker.”
The insult should have stung, but, truth be told, Gabriella was used to it. Everyone always preferred her slimmer, younger, if extremely flighty sister. Still, without Viola fluttering her eyelashes at the café owner, they would be out on the street, already, so Gabriella fixed a smile on her face, and approached her sister’s section. Despite her exhaustion her heart beat faster, when she spotted him.
As per usual he sat with his nose buried in his book. Viola had complained about it often enough, as he never took any notice of her. He looked up when she approached and her word tilted a little seeing his warm smile.
“The usual, sir?” she asked, and he nodded.
“Yes, please. Gabriella, is it?”
At her astonished nod, his smile deepened.
“I’m glad I finally got you.”
