That scent in the air. It couldn’t be, yet his bear took notice. Dinner forgotten, he took off toward that faint and far too alluring promise of home. There should be no one else on his island, yet alone a female, who made his bear want to beat his chest, hunt her down, and make her his.
Stephan roiled back at those thoughts, seconds before the stench of blood and fear hit his nostrils. His bear roared a warning, but the old polar bear, who’d tried to lay claim to the island that Stephen called home, was too caught up in his blood lust to take any notice.
The Siberian cat fought bravely, if clumsily, her kind’s usual sleek elegance completely lacking in this young woman. Her human side appeared too caught up in sheer terror at facing this large opponent. When the old bear raised his massive paw, having exposed the cat’s soft underbelly, Stephan let his own bear take over. Charging forward he pushed the intruder off his prey, and sunk his lethal teeth into the other bear’s throat.
As fights went this was almost too easy. His bear furious at the threat to his mate.
