The rain seemed symbolic almost, and I reveled in the feel of it on my skin, loved the wet ground under my toes.
Never again would he tell me what to do. I tilted my face into the downpour to let it wash away my tears.
Tears of happiness, of sheer joy to be alive, to be able to feel at all.
Folks hurried by, huddled under umbrellas muttering about me being crazy, and I laughed harder.
He told me I was crazy too, that no one would believe me.
Maybe not, but the corpse I left behind couldn’t talk.
