He sensed the disturbance behind him, seconds before the deer did. The animal took off and Bjorn cursed under his breath as the arrow went wild.
“Oh my god, what in the fucking hell.”
He didn’t recognize the female voice cursing a blue streak, but he did recognize the odd lilt to her tongue. Asger, the earl’s son of the neighboring village had a human mate who uttered those same curse words all too frequently when she thought no one was watching. It usually resulted in Asger turning his woman’s ass red.
As she wasn’t dim one could only assume she did it on purpose because she would know all the shifters around could hear her.
The wind shifted, bringing with it the most intoxicating scent, and Bjorn’s inner bear roused from his
Bjorn swung around with his trademark bow high in the air, ready to fight the intruder. All the breath left his lungs, instead.
Crouched on the floor, looking utterly terrified was the spitting image of Asger’s wife. So that’s why the scent had seemed so familiar. This younger version had to be related.
His bear roared what Bjorn already knew. The fates had sent his válað.
