The deep throaty roar of his motorbike warned Sandie of his arrival, seconds before the powerful beam of the headlight illuminated her huddling under the bridge. She winced as Micah shut off the engine.
She didn’t dare look up, her anger at what she overheard him say on the phone long since washed away with the rain, which left her a shivering, tired mess.
His boots crunched on the floor, and before she could do anything at all, she was enveloped by his warm strength. A sob escaped her, as he draped his leather jacket around her shoulders, and tipped her chin up with his hand.
“Give me one good reason, why I shouldn’t bend you over my bike right now, and pummel that ass of yours red, girl.”
She didn’t answer, him, couldn’t in truth find any words in her defense, and his deep sigh ghosted across her face.
“Come here, you foolish woman, you’re half frozen.”
Sandie didn’t need to be told twice. She hunkered into the comforting hug he offered, and inhaled deeply of his spicy scent.
“I’m sorry I messed up your life.”
That overheard assessment still stung, and Micah pulled her closer.
“My choice, kitten.”
