Q. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
A. I was born in Rome, Italy and am settled in the Chicagoland area. I became a romance junkie in my teens. I’m a huge fan of the 80’s – the movies, the hair bands, etc. I love anything pink and collect Just the Right Shoe mini collectible shoes.
Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?
I’m a computer nerd by profession, and I was doubtful I was creative enough to actually write a novel. I finally decided after decades of reading and dreaming to try it.
My original idea was to create two fictional towns near Dallas, Envy and Rapture and include all the elements that I’ve enjoyed reading over the years – MF and ménage pairings, BDSM clubs, shifters, cowboys and military men. I created an entire cast of characters – human and shifter – that I fell in love with. I was nervous that since I was just starting out as a novelist that I wouldn’t be able to do them justice. They felt like real people to me.
I chose to start right where I am – in the Chicagoland area, what I’m calling the Windy City Nights series. From a little personal tidbit of information a friend shared with me, I developed a new set of characters who I love just as much and you’ll meet in On the Ropes, and they will interact with my Texas crew before I head there myself to write their stories.
Q. Tell us about your cover.
Chicago is a big sports town. We have 2 Major League baseball teams the Cubs and White Sox. My hero is a pitcher for the fictional Chicago Cobras baseball team. The cover has Luke “Strike ‘em Out” Stryker and Abbey Jayne his long time love who he’s trying to win back after a horrible break up 10 years ago.
Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us
Chaotic! Although I have an “evil day job” I’m fortunate that I’m a full-time tech teleworker. I’m able to get writing time in the morning before I have to log into the corporate network, and during the day if I’m not in meetings or needed to perform various administrative duties, and then after the work day is over. Each day is different but I try to get at least a couple of hours of writing done every day.
I wrote On the Ropes in November of 2017 while taking about 2 weeks’ vacation time. I’m half way through my second novel in the series and it’s going much slower. I think I need to take more vacation time and get it done!
Q. What inspires you?
So many things. Music lyrics, news stories, dreams, overheard conversations at restaurants…
Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?
Right now I’m not only a writer. I would love to be able to earn my living from writing and say goodbye to Corporate America as I know it - forever.
Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?
Yes, sometimes they say and do things I didn’t plan! That is especially true for the follow up to On the Ropes.
Q. What could not do without when you’re writing?
The feeling of being warm. It’s an unfortunate side effect of bariatric surgery that I usually feel chilled. So I’ve got to feel warm or else I can’t concentrate.
Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?
Don’t waste years like I did being afraid to try writing a novel (or short story) for publication. Once I finally decided to write On the Ropes it was written in 5 weeks, about 75,000 words and was accepted by Evernight Publishing in 11 days. Talk about being shocked and regretting I’d not written it sooner. I wonder how my life would have been different today if I had taken a chance on myself sooner. So my advice is – take a chance on yourself! Now!
Q. Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
Retired from Corporate America earning my living from writing. Since I live in Chicagoland it’s a dream of my husband’s for us to have a little winter condo someplace warm like Florida or Las Vegas.
Q. Do you have a favourite quote?
Love, like vodka should flow freely.
And darn - I can’t find its origin! I think it was from a movie or television show but the Google and Interwebs have not helped me find it.
Q. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?
Not so much a block but distractions from getting more words written. I’m having a love/hate relationship with the internet right now.
Q. What other books can your readers look forward to?
My current work in progress is the follow up to On the Ropes tentatively titled The Warrior’s Whisper.
It’s Heath and Leah’s story who you’ll meet in On the Ropes. Sexy former Marine and the women who’s loved him her entire life. And since we’ve discussed characters surprising me, The Warrior’s Whisper ended up becoming quite BDSMy because a secondary character, who happens to own a club expanding to the Chicagoland area (Club Envidious) opened his big mouth and suggested Heath bring Leah to the club for a tour. That wasn’t my original intent for the story and most certainly was not in my outline.
After Heath and Leah, I have Rocco and Hannah’s story. You’ll also meet them in On the Ropes. He’s Luke Stryker’s close friend and bodyguard and a server at Club Envidious’s Twisted Tea Society. Oh and he’s a hunky Italian former Marine. Hannah is a sweet event planner who falls hard for the hesitant hero.
Q. And finally can you share the blurb and excerpt with us?
On the Ropes Blurb
Tag line: Ten years ago he let her get away. Does he have what it takes to make her his for good?
By all accounts Luke “Strike ‘em Out” Stryker lives a charmed life. He’s won 4 World Series Championship rings and is the Chicago Cobras star pitcher. He’s gorgeous, wealthy and is dating one of Hollywood’s biggest A-list actresses.
But things aren’t always as they appear.
Abbey Jayne has been nursing a broken heart since Luke Stryker betrayed her ten years ago. She’s spent the last ten years focused on her career and education, trying to get over him.
Forced to see him again at her sister’s wedding, Abbey vows to not let Luke ruin her weekend.
An accident days before the wedding has Luke re-evaluating the harsh realities of his life and future. A future that must include his one true love Abbey.
A terrible misunderstanding drove them apart ten years ago, but Luke is determined to win Abbey back by the end of the wedding weekend. He’ll do whatever it takes to convince her they belong together. Failure is not an option.
On the Ropes Excerpt
Abbey remembered Luke’s talented tongue. He’d spent hours using it all over her. Kissing her senseless with just the right amount of firmness. Licking her nipples relentlessly until they ached so good. And when he used his tongue between her legs, it hadn’t taken many swipes against her throbbing clit to set her off like a rocket ship.
For the next few minutes, he continued to feed them from their dessert plate. Although Abbey enjoyed the delicious treats she was being fed, she enjoyed watching Luke’s mouth as he ate even more. She imagined his mouth, lips, and tongue on her, and by the time they’d had their fill of dessert, she was hot and aching. Her panties were damp and she desperately needed relief. The kind only Luke could provide.
She was practically vibrating in her chair and her breaths reduced to quick pants. Luke licked his lips and she couldn’t wait another minute to get a taste of him. She leaned in and he met her halfway.
Abbey startled and quickly pulled away at the amplified sound of the DJ’s voice. “All right, everyone, we’re going to get the evening’s festivities underway. The photographers have set up in the corner next to the gift table for anyone who would like to have pictures taken. Jake and Cassie, come on up for your first dance as man and wife.”
Abbey shivered and tried to calm down. She looked over to Luke and saw him frowning. “Bad timing, DJ dude,” he mumbled.
She giggled at him as she joined the guests and applauded while Cassie and Jake went to the dance floor for their first dance. Luke reached over and held her hand, and they both watched, hand in hand, as the newlyweds danced to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Tony Bennett. From the way Jake was looking at Cassie—with love, lust, and contentment—it was the perfect song. Abbey teared up. Once upon a time, Luke had looked at her the same way.
She felt his warm fingers brush away a stray tear on her cheek. His simple touch made her insides sizzle. This is so unfair. He turned her head, so she faced him. “No tears, princess.”
Luke leaned in and her eyes drifted shut. She should have pulled away but didn’t have the will left in her to do that. The soft, warm brush of Luke’s lips on hers left her reeling. The world around them fell away. She’d missed Luke so much. Missed everything Luke. Abbey’s head was swimming. She wanted him, needed him so badly.
Luke licked the seam of her lips, seeking entry, and Abbey opened her mouth, happy to let him inside. The first taste of him was a sweet mix of the delicious desserts they’d just shared—chocolate, tart apples, cheesecake, and more. His big warm hands cradled her face as their tongues tangled and danced. More decadent than any dessert.
Abbey lost herself in him. Her heart raced and her skin felt hot and tight. Her breasts were swollen and heavy and her panties were soaked. Luke moaned sexily and she was ready to toss him under the table and--
“If the bridal party and parents of the bride and groom would like to come to the dance floor now, please.”
