“I can’t do this. Go sort out your own mess.”
A cough and rather pathetic attempt at a sneeze was her answer down the phone she cradled between her cheek and shoulder, as she attempted to fasten the delicate strap on her stiletto sandals.
“Damn it, why is this so difficult?”
“Surely, he can’t be that abhorrent? The agency vets the clients thoroughly, and—”
“Not your client.” Alex’s annoyed growl down the phone shut up her so called best friend. “It’s these damn shoes. I’ll break my freaking neck. I’m not you, Jeanie. I never pull this off. You have to cancel.”
Another, louder, and definitely impatient knock made Alex almost drop the phone.
“Please, you know I can’t.”
With a frustrated growl Alex shut off the phone and before she could lose her nerves, yanked open the door, and promptly wished she hadn’t.
Nathanial Longton’s scowl changed into a grin as he slowly ran his gaze over her body, leaving heated awareness in its wake.
Of all the clients, it had to be him.
