The soft words stalled him mid take off, and with a growing sense of impending doom he tucked in his huge wings, and turned slowly. Rhonda’s tear stained face brought him to his emotional knees, not that he had any intention of showing his feelings.
To do so would condemn her too. She was too fragile, too precious to be confined in this time with him, even if she thought that’s what she wanted.
Roaring his frustration to the heavens, he let out a stream of fire. It set the foliage alight, and ashes fell down upon their heads, yet, still the damn woman just stood there.
“You don’t scare me, Drorgan. You never have. I’m staying, whether you want me to or not.”
Shoulders pushed back, hands on hips, she glared up at him. Banking his fire he blew out another breath, the sheer force of which made her stagger back a few paces, and he curled his long tail around her, lest she fall and hurt herself.
So focused on keeping her safe, he didn’t realize he’d lowered his head in her reaching distance, until she grasped hold and kissed him.
“I love you, silly dragon.”
