Susie came to with a gasp, and squinted in the brightness surrounding her. Every breath in hurt, the air heavy and oppressive, scented as it was by the perfume of a million flowers.
Lifting her sore head resulted in the kaleidoscope of colours around her to grow fuzzy, and she hastily closed her eyes again.
Where on earth was she? Panic set in as she tried to recall how she might have gotten to this place. She’d been downing shots at the new bar in town, and then… she whimpered as another scent registered. Ancient, deadly, seductive…. It was him.
