The spray of the waves hid her tears. He wouldn’t have wanted her to cry. She swiped the threatening tears away, and hugged her knees to herself in a poor imitation of the real thing. If she closed her eyes, she could almost hear his laughter in the crash of the sea. So vibrant, just like he’d always been, never more so than when they were close to the sea and here at this very spot, where he’d come ashore.
He said he’d never regretted giving it up for her, even though it ultimately cost him his life.
